The new Dark Sky Project headquarters on the edge of Lake Takapo (Tekapo) is offering the most advanced astro-tourism experience in the country. With an overall project budget of $11 million and boasting the restored Brashear Telescope – a masterpiece of Victorian engineering – the Dark Sky Project is bringing the wonder of the night sky to those visiting the region.
Harrows worked closely with Ngai Tahu Tourism and Dark Sky Project to provide furniture that was befitting for Takapo’s boldest attraction. To create a point of difference for the Dark Sky Project, custom solutions were searched out to connect the interior to its stunning location.
Inside the Dark Sky Diner, lush leather banquette seating and boldly painted timber chairs overlook breath-taking views both day and night. The exciting outdoor tables and bench seating designs, made from folded steel, reflect the peaks and ridges of the Southern Alps.
